2024 APSN ISP STUDIO PROJECT

This project was developed for APSN ISP 2024, where the brief focused on designing wearable pieces for our client. The design emphasises functionality, comfort, and adaptability while maintaining a strong visual identity. Through modular construction, soft materials, and considered detailing, the project explores how fashion can be both expressive and inclusive, balancing practicality with thoughtful design.

Process & Development

The concept for this project was inspired by childhood in Singapore, drawing from familiar memories and cultural references. Through group discussions, the idea evolved into a fisherman theme, referencing Singapore’s early roots as a fishing village. This narrative was translated into the design through functional forms and playful details. The colour palette was informed by the client’s personal interest in Mickey Mouse, incorporating bold and cheerful colours to create a sense of familiarity, joy, and comfort while keeping the design engaging and child-friendly.

Showcasing

My group’s APSN Studio Project, alongside another group’s, was selected for a school showcase held during the open house period, where the work was presented to the public as part of a curated display. During this showcase, the project was viewed by our Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, marking a meaningful moment of recognition for the collaborative and inclusive design approach explored in this project.

Following the showcase, the piece was also featured in a dedicated display case within the Fashion's showroom.
